In El Quesada’s work, neon tubes are taken outside of their intended use to create an impulsive sense of unease when the glass is stacked, heavy with water. This tension is balanced by the grounding presence of petit blooms and propagations of new life.

“This specific series emphasizes the steps we take to find our individual “happy medium”. This can often feel like a back-and-forth in the mind. Two steps forward, one step back. Creating this collection was a meditation in challenging my own internal narratives of security, risk, comfort, and contingency.”
